Personnel Committee OKs 5 Raise Requests for Judge’s Office

In a pro forma 15-minute meeting held immediately before this year’s first meeting on the 2023 Budget, JPs quickly and unanimously passed a series of five Personnel Resolutions calling for raises ranging from 10% to 17% for various entities in the County Judge’s office.

To start the November 28 meeting, Personnel Chair JP Tyler Pearson (D, Dist. 7) explained that, although they were submitted by the required September timeline, he had held the Resolutions for the raise requests until “after the election” at the request of County Judge Jim Baker (who was defeated by Allen Dodson in his race for County Judge on November 9).

Watching the meeting livestream video was a bit difficult — as has been the case for over two years now — as various individuals explained the requests without the use of a microphone. Pearson did not introduce the speakers, who appeared off-camera, although he did address County Administrator Tom Anderson by name at one point.

As required in the Personnel Manual, each request was accompanied by a salary survey of Class 6 counties for each job described, although many requestors commented on the difficulty of comparing like jobs because of differing duties across counties.

JPs asked very few questions as they unanimously passed all the Resolutions calling for raises for various areas included in the County Judge portion of the 2023 Budget:

Personnel Resolution 22-05, Raises for Office/HR Staff – Judge’s Office
Personnel Resolution 22-06, Raises for Road Department – Judge’s Office
Personnel Resolution 22-07, Raises for OEM – Judge’s Office
Personnel Resolution 22-08, Raises for Maintenance Department – Judge’s Office
Personnel Resolution 22-09, Raises for IT Department – Judge’s Office
