Senator King Files to Repeal Data Centers Act of 2023

State Senator Bryan King of Green Forest (R, Dist. 28) has filed Interim Study Proposal 2023-014 with the Legislative Council to repeal HB1799/Act 851, the Arkansas Data Centers Act of 2023.

King said,

I just want people to know I am working on this. This bill (HB1799) was NOT passed in a way to give the public proper notice or in an informed manner.

The Arkansas Legislature passed Act 851 — with 88 votes in the state House and 33 votes in the state Senate — in the last frantic days of the 94th General Assembly; although it was promoted as “regulating” the industry, the bill effectively blocks local jurisdictions from enacting regulations around the cryptomining industry.
