June Quorum Court OKs Routine Ordinances, Resolution for Vacant JP Seat

JPs at the June Quorum Court meeting quickly approved four Ordinances after Judge Allen Dodson honored JP Jerry Boyer (R, Dist. 12), who passed away on May 31, but took no votes/official action on the noise problem at the Bono cryptomining site.

These four Ordinances were approved:

Ordinance 23-13, Monthly Appropriations
Ordinance 23-14, Sheriff’s Office Stipend
Ordinance 23-15, Assessor Education Bonus
Ordinance 23-16, ARP Funds: Deliver Hope

Officials presented road reports, monthly financial reports, and the Sheriff’s activity report.

Dodson reported on the revamping of Lake Conway planned by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission.

There were no comments from the public.

The Court also approved Resolution 23-05 designating Boyer’s absence on the Quorum Court so that Governor Sarah Sanders can be notified and a temporary replacement named.

A state law preventing local regulation of “data centers” — for noise or otherwise — goes into effect August 1. Other communities (such as Vilonia and Boone County) are racing to approve local noise regulations during their July Council and Quorum Court meetings because of the public outcry surrounding the noisy cryptomining sites springing up around Arkansas.

There was no update about a proposed noise regulation for Faulkner County. The Courts & Public Safety Committee did not pass a noise ordinance that was proposed by JP John Allison (R, Dist. 3) at its June Committee meeting.
