Oh Happy Day! County’s Livestreaming Audio is Much Improved

The August Faulkner County Quorum Court Committee meetings brought a pleasant surprise for those Court watchers who had tried but given up on hearing the proceedings at meetings that are livestreamed from the County Courthouse.

Oh Happy Day — the audio problems are finally being addressed, and the sound quality is much improved!

Before the August 8 Budget Committee meeting began, County Administrator Randy Higgins reported that microphones were “picking up background noise,” which made much of the sound inaudible on the livestream video. Running the microphone feeds directly from the mixer to the livestream feed has eliminated the conflicting background noise, he explained.

Higgins finished his very brief remarks by reminding JPs to “use your microphone.” He also directed audience members who wish to speak at Quorum Court meetings to use the microphone in the front center aisle of the Courtroom (rather than standing up to speak from where they may be sitting).

FCR has reported the continuing problems with livestreamed audio and video for over three years — since the County began to depend on livestreaming its Quorum Court meetings during COVID in 2020. We are gratified the problem is being addressed.

The improved audio also produces much more accurate written transcripts that accompany the livestream videos, which is greatly appreciated by our hearing impaired citizens who depend on those transcripts.
