JPs OK Ordinances & Grant Positions

After very quick last-minute Personnel and Budget Committee meetings (the second for both this month), JPs at September’s Quorum Court meeting followed the Committees’ lead, approving four Ordinances:

Ordinance 23-23 – Amended Appropriation
Ordinance 23-25 – Appropriation
Ordinance 23-26 – Establish Sheriff’s Overdose Response Team
Ordinance 23-28 – 3rd Div. New (Grant-Funded) Position

The longest discussion surrounded legislation that sets a dues election for the Pine Village Volunteer Fire Department at the March primary; however, JPs eventually removed the emergency clause from the matching Resolution and Ordinance, which sets up for a second reading next month.

Before ARP Administrator Tom Anderson presented Roads and ARP reports, Treasurer Scott Sanson presented the August financials:

County Judge Allen Dodson, thanking the Judge’s “administrative staff, Justice Coats and the Sheriff’s Department for all the due diligence,” reported on the proposed jail and animal shelter projects, saying he anticipates calling a special meeting to discuss the “largest capital improvement project the County’s ever undertaken.”

Dodson also promised upcoming meetings of the Infrastructure Committee (which has been non-functioning for all practical purposes this entire year) to handle “some requests for floodplain variances.”
