2024 Budget Deliberations
Under the chairmanship of JP Tyler Lachowsky (R, Dist. 6), the Budget & Finance Committee is getting a good head start on the 2024 Budget process as compared to past years, with an orientation meeting on October 24 where Lachowsky and County Treasurer Scott Sanson presented “Budget 101” information:
With hearings scheduled for November 2, 7, 9, 14, and 16, the Budget & Finance Committee will address all the various County Department budget requests by the end of November, thus avoiding what had become a years-long practice of a last-minute, holiday season rush to complete the next calendar year’s budget. (For example, last year’s budget hearings did not even begin until November 28.)
Here’s the budget request schedule for the November meetings:
November 2, “Easy Ones”
November 7, “Courts”
November 9, “County Judge”
November 14, “Other Elected Officials,” Regular Committee Meeting
JPs agreed to recommend a 6% COLA for the 2024 budget (as already reflected in the salaries included in the 2024 budget requests).
November 16, “Sheriff’s Office”
The Committee-approved 2024 Budget will be considered by the full Quorum Court at its November meeting.
