Committees OK All Actions After Walkout

At their last meetings of 2023, the Budget and Personnel Committees rather quickly dispatched their very few agenda items, including unanimous approvals of new Library Board member Kellie Cardin, as well as the monthly appropriations Ordinance 23-39 and Ordinance 23-40 formalizing the County’s plans to spend $10 million in unencumbered ARP funds (previously approved via Resolution).

The short Personnel Committee meeting on December 12 included the abrupt departure of Committee member JP Tyler Pearson (D, Dist. 7), who walked out of the meeting amid comments from Chair JP Kris Kendrick (R, Dist. 9) after Pearson questioned why Judge Allen Dodson hadn’t notified Committee members about Dodson’s Library Board nominee ahead of the meeting.

The remaining Committee members went on to unanimously approve Cardin’s appointment, an action not required by the law. Next step is requesting approval from the full Quorum Court.
